BCH DEVCON Amsterdam Continues the Search for the Next Big Idea
Following the success of the recent BCH DEVCON in San Francisco, organizers are hoping to see even more creativity at the next event, in Amsterdam (BCH DEVCON AMS) from 27-28th October. This time around, however, BCH DEVCON is broadening its talent search by including both a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) track and another track where developers can work with any blockchain they like.

The event will also feature presentations from prominent names in the BCH development community, including Gabriel Cardona, Amaury Sechet, Ryan X. Charles, and major sponsor BTC.com representatives explaining the company’s API and SDK. BTC.com will also be scouting for new employees among the hackers.
How BCH DEVCON AMS Projects Will Be Judged
Similar to the San Francisco event, competitors’ prototypes will be judged on the following four criteria:
- Utility: Does this tool provide a useful function?
- Usability: Is it easy and engaging to use?
- Creativity: Is it doing something innovative?
- Functionality: How well does the product function?
Judges will favor products that make use of BCH’s new OP codes, larger block size, the Wormhole protocol, tokenization, smart contracts, or utilizes Bitcoin Cash in other meaningful ways.
Speaking to Bitsonline, BTC.com marketing manager Nikol Daru said the main theme of BCH DEVCON will remain Bitcoin Cash. Her team feels it’s a fascinating technology for both financial transactions (electronic cash), and thanks to its latest developments also for other types of transactions (smart contracts, tokenization).
However it also wanted to offer development teams for other blockchains and cryptocurrencies the chance to participate.
“We want to create an open, innovative, and creative environment where our hackers can choose to compete either on the main Bitcoin Cash track or one the General blockchain track.”
“As a new element we included a second track! The Netherlands has a booming blockchain space and BTC.com plays a very active role in supporting the local crypto community. That’s why we though to organize a hackathon that creates a bridge between the different blockchain communities, so the participants can learn the best tips & tricks from each other.”
Other Information and Requirements
Competitors will form into (hopefully) spontaneous teams, and even those with skills other than programming — blockchain experts, creatives, business minds, designers, etc. — are welcome to join in.
BCH DEVCON AMS has BTC.com, Bitmain and Rockstart as major sponsors, with Bitmain’s investment arm Permissionless driving the concept. The winner of the Bitcoin Cash track will win 3,500 EUR (4,000 USD) and the “General Track” winner gets 1,500 EUR (1,700 USD). All prizes will be paid in BCH.
The event runs from 27 – 28 October 2018 at Rockstart HQ, Rigakade 10, 1013 BC, Amsterdam, Netherlands. A link to attend and/or participate is available here.
