Junseth’s World Episode 32: Heroine Quality Assurance Tester
There’s morals on the menu in Junseth’s World this week; which do you prefer — vice, or math? The podcast crew riff again on the tragic loss of Backpage.com, and the important part it played in building the bitcoin economy — before sidestepping into the morals of ASIC mining (did you ever think it was possible to segue from sex to algos? We didn’t either, till we met BTC).

Junseth: ‘This Whole ASIC Resistant Shit’
Junseth and Shawn are reduced to a twosome as Dante deals with what looks like a serious fire on his Bitcorn farm. They marvel that the forced Backpage.com closure has done almost nothing to eradicate prostitution — supply or demand. Then, in the absence of official platforms, social networks like Instagram and Facebook may now be the internet’s most popular places to market P2P adult services.
“But what about Paxful … they were funding the entire thing,” Junseth asks, referring to the popular bitcoin-gift card exchange that often supplied the BTC that paid for ads on Backpage, after the company was blocked by most mainstream payment processors. Strangely enough, there’s actually been an increase in Paxful’s volumes — if you’re curious as to why, check out the whole interview.
Somehow the discussion moves swiftly through the latest Bitcoin political spat and lands on the notion of “ASIC resistance” — which, they realize, is about as effective as banning prostitution. While every coin you’ve heard of is considering a fork to make it somehow impossible to mine with certain chipsets, the JW crew ponder if it really only fights off the ASIC hordes for a couple of years, or whenever the coin becomes profitable enough to ASIC-mine… whichever comes first.
There’s also another dilemma: what if the project’s founder or lead dev remains on the “minor” blockchain? Who gets the brand? Hear this discussion and much, much more on this week’s Junseth’s World.
For the Unfluffed: WTF Is Junseth’s World?
JW hosts Junseth, Dante and Shaun are Bitcoin’s Florida Men. So far, none of them has ever had a website seized by the Department of Justice or participated in the trafficking of live humans other than each other.
Spawned from the greater Miami area blockchain scene, the three embody that region’s unique approach to life and business. They’ve seen and done things for Bitcoin you probably never imagined … and some you wished you could un-imagine.
Somewhere in the banter, you actually get a good education and some surprisingly useful insights into the world of finance, trading, business and economics. Subscribe to the entire series on Soundcloud.
