Junseth’s World Episode 30: Haitian Dirt Cookies
OK, so there was a little blowback from the community after Junseth suggested Bitcoin mining was turning rustic local communities into festering hellholes. While we can’t imagine why anyone would find that controversial, the three hosts of Junseth’s World revisit the issue to discuss what (if any) advantages bitcoin miners bring — and what levers local governments can pull to control the kinds of businesses that operate in their town.

Junseth, Dante and the Seven Circles of Darknet Entrapment
This week’s economics discussion looks at the morality of entrapment, as Dutch investigators brag about how they ran Hansa marketplace to catch its users, increasing service standards along the way. Would it be a legitimate tactic for police to actually start their own darknet market as a honey trap, to catch as many participants in the drug trade as possible? At what point does government become accountable to the victims of crimes it perpetrates itself? Well… we all know the answer to that last question, but it’s still fun to pretend.
You know those friends you have, who really want to get into Bitcoin but always time their entry right as the current hype reverses into a downturn? There’s a company like that too — its name is Circle, and like your tragic friend it also thinks buying cryptos with credit cards is a good idea. Also like your friend, it will probably lose interest in crypto soon and find something else to do until the next time it’s too late.
We’re a little worried about Dante though, who steps a little too far into crazy conspiracy territory in this episode. Apparently a House of Representatives member from California who delivered a speech calling cryptocurrencies “a crock”, and who can’t pronounce “seigniorage”, and took a hefty chunk of change from a non-crypto trading app called Allied Wallet… might have been prompted to make that speech by his sponsors. Naturally, suggesting this was a paid political favor is a step too far — and luckily the hosts are there to rescue Dante from his delusion before he removes his shirt and goes full Infowars.
Huh? What’s all this about then? To find out everything you need to know, listen to the full episode of Junseth’s World.
For the Uninitiated: WTF Is Junseth’s World?
JW hosts Junseth, Dante and Shaun are Bitcoin’s Florida Men. It’s the podcast that builds a house in the swamp rather than make any realistic attempt to drain it.
Spawned from the greater Miami area blockchain scene, the controversial media team embody that region’s unique approach to business. They’ve seen and done things for Bitcoin you probably never imagined … and some you wished you could un-imagine.
Somewhere in the banter, you actually get a good education and some surprisingly useful insights into the world of finance, trading, business and economics. Subscribe to the entire series on Soundcloud.
