Flagship Fintech Conference
Las Vegas is Money 20/20’s flagship conference and attracts some big names, with over 11,500 attendees expected. Highlighted speakers include Sir Richard Branson, Shaquille O’Neill, Ripple CEO Chris Larsen and Stellar founder Jed McCaleb, recording artist Akon, and Mayor of Dallas Michael S. Rawlings.
“Join Us at the Forefront of Disruption” says Money 20/20’s website, promising the conference will look at the technology and issues that will impact electronic commerce in the near and far future. While bitcoin and cryptocurrency have long promised to revolutionize money and commerce, there’s still plenty of new technology being integrated into the existing fiat currency and banking world.
Even most fiat currency and credit card transactions these days are very different to what they were a decade ago when bitcoin first appeared, challenging some of cryptocurrency’s claimed benefits of security and privacy, speed and cost. Some of them could also aid in building a better cryptocurrency economy — we’ll be asking how.
Money 20/20 and Crypto
While the event has long featured a blockchain and crypto stream, that’s only one part of the proceedings. Presentations and exhibitions will also look at AI and deep learning, alternative lending and credit, digital marketing, security and countering fraud, regulation and “regtech”, and socially-focused projects.
Money 20/20 also features the now-famous “Payments Race“, where Team Crypto (previously represented by Amelie Arras) surprised event hosts by beating other payment methods like different types of credit cards, gold, and even cash itself in a challenge race across North America. Can new face Max Meilleur repeat the performance?
With thousands of blockchain and fintech industry representatives attending, Money 20/20 supplies plenty of meetups and other networking opportunities. The official app will help attendees find the themed meetups that suit their interests, there’s an Industry Night sponsored by Google, a Poolside Reception with literal pools hosting topics like social good and startups, and a number of cocktail parties.
Money 20/20 runs from 21-24 October at The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. Are you going? Let us know.
