Industry media (like Bitsonline) reporters have been active at conferences like TNABC for years now, but what’s it like for the “regular” business and finance media seeing all this for the first time? Bianca Chen is a NYC-based reporter, originally from China, who worked for Thomson Reuters and also founded her own production company called OX3. Ox3 was in Miami filming a series on American blockchain entrepreneurs, which will air in February.

Bianca Chen and OX3 Productions Explore the Blockchain Scene
Chen and her OX3 crew have been working on the documentary “Next: The Blockchain Revolution” since summer 2017, and it’s due to air on Chinese national TV in February 2018. What did they make of TNABC, a Bitcoin conference that seemed more about blockchains and token sales in 2018 than the old, anarchic Bitcoiner fest?
You could see all that as signs of a booming new industry, but also a bit of a craze, Chen said. But ultimately, it would count as “growing pains” any new industry must endure — many companies at the conference today will fail before blockchain’s Google or Amazon emerges.
Chen also touched on the issue of Chinese companies moving offshore, to find more regulatory acceptance of the cryptocurrency business than at home. The technology is designed to be decentralized and global, she said, so it’s inevitable that Chinese companies would have to make their way in the global market anyway.
Will that change in the future? Watch the whole interview.
Growth of the North American Bitcoin Conference
The North American Bitcoin Conference (TNABC) is regarded as the original major Bitcoin event in the USA, and possibly the world. Held annually in Miami every January since 2013, it staked that city’s claim as Bitcoin’s fun and business capital — growing from a few hundred bitcoin enthusiasts into a gathering of thousands, including several high-profile industry leaders. It’s a must-attend event on the blockchain calendar.
Produced by Dr. Moe Levin’s Keynote Events team, it now covers all disruptive blockchain technology issues — including smart contracts, ICOs, fintech, regulation and investment. TNABC also has international sister events, such as World Blockchain Forum in London.
